Julia Domna
A nickle-sized silver antoninianus of Julia Domna, who was wife of Septimius Severus
(Augustus 193-211 AD) and mother of Caracalla (Augustus 196-217 AD). The obverse legend
reads
IVLIA PIA FELIX AVG
"Julia Pious Happy (Fortunate) Augusta"
and the reverse reads
VENVS GENETRIX
This new, larger, denomination of silver coin was introduced in 215 AD and this coin was struck
215 - 217 AD for one of the first issues.
